Marita Conlon-McKenna is an award winning writer of fiction whose novels regularly top the best-seller list. Her first book, Under the Hawthorn Tree, set in Ireland’s Great Famine, has become a children’s classic, widely translated and published. Marita also writes for adults and her other fiction works include The Magdalen, The Stone House and Rebel Sisters. Her epic new adult novel, The Hungry Road, (Jan 2020), is an absorbing tale of endurance, heroism, compassion, love and survival during Ireland’s darkest days.
Marita will read from The Hungry Road and talk about it and other work to Martina Devlin, author and journalist, whose recent fiction is Truth and Dare: Short Stories about Women Who Shaped Ireland.
Martina Devlin is a bestselling author and award-winning journalist. Born in Omagh, Co., Tyrone, she has had ten books published, her most recent book of short stories is called, Truth & Dare, February 2019. An MPhil graduate in literature, she is a PhD candidate in Trinity College Dublin studying The Irish R.M., co-author Edith Somerville, where she was awarded the Pyle Bursary for her research.
